Social housing in Westcourt, Cairns  

We are building new social housing on Ascot Avenue in Westcourt to deliver a place to call home for Queenslanders eligible for social housing. 

The development will be made up of 21 two-bedroom units, providing homes for approximately 42 people including singles, couples and small families. 

Key features 

The new development is close to public transport, a shopping centre, medical facilities, schools and restaurants.  

The development will feature: 

  • 21 car parks 
  • 12 bicycle parks. 

The development has been designed thoughtfully to: 

  • align with the local planning scheme
  • minimise impact on neighbouring properties 
  • contribute to diverse and sustainable communities. 

The Cairns Housing Service Centre will refer applicants from the Social Housing Register to live in the new homes and manage the tenancies.  

Timing 

Consultation on the project has now closed and we have considered the feedback received during the consultation period.

Construction is planned to commence in late 2026 to be ready for people to move in by late 2027.
