Social housing in Darra

Artist impression of a common area

We’re proposing to build new social housing at Largs Street in Darra to deliver a place to call home for Queenslanders eligible for social housing.

The development will be made up of one five-storey building containing 16 one-bedroom units and 8 two-bedroom units. It will provide homes for approximately 32 people including singles, couples and small families.

Key features

The new development is close to a shopping centre, public transport, schools, sport facilities, and services.

The development will feature:

  • a small, open communal space
  • car parking and bicycle parking
  • screened bedroom windows and balconies to ensure privacy of the tenants and neighbouring properties.

The development will be designed to:

  • provide a balance between private and communal spaces
  • create a sense of community
  • respect individual privacy
  • meet accessibility requirements in line with the Social Housing Design Guidelines.

The Inala Housing Service Centre will refer applicants from the Social Housing Register to live in the new homes and manage the tenancies. The homes will be available to individuals, couples, and small families who are eligible for social housing.

Timing

Construction is planned for late 2026 to be ready for people to move in by early 2028.
