Social Housing on Dittmann Road, Avoca, Bundaberg

We’re building new social homes at Dittmann Road in Avoca, Bundaberg to provide homes for Queenslanders who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

The development will be delivered in 2 stages:

  • Stage 1 includes 6 homes made up of:
    • 4 3-bedroom
    • 2 4-bedroom homes.
  • Stage 2 includes 40 homes across 7 2-storey buildings and 2 3-storey buildings. The buildings will be made up of:
    • 6 1-bedroom
    • 34 2-bedroom homes.

Stage 1 of the development will provide homes for approximately 20 people and Stage 2 will provide homes for approximately 70 people eligible for social housing.

Modular homes

The homes are architecturally designed, modular homes, which are built offsite and transported to the site for installation. Modular homes have many benefits—they are well-designed, sustainable and can be installed on site faster than traditional construction methods.

The homes are built to a 7-star energy efficiency rating.

Features of the development

Features of the development include:

  • communal green space
  • car parking
  • screening to bedroom windows, decks and balconies on the new homes to ensure privacy of the tenants and neighbouring properties.

The development is designed to provide a balance between private and communal spaces, creating a sense of community while respecting individual privacy.

The new social homes are well-located, close to a shopping centre, public transport, schools and services including the Bundaberg Hospital.

The homes are accessible as per the Social Housing Design Guidelines

Bundaberg Housing Service Centre will manage the tenancies and refer applicants from the Social Housing Register to live in the new homes. The homes will be available to Queensland families, couples and individuals who are eligible for social housing.

Timing

Stage 1 construction will be completed and ready for people to move in soon.

Construction on Stage 2 is planned to start late 2025 and be ready for people to move in early 2026.
