Housing and homelessness services programs redesign | About

We’re undertaking a review and redesign of our housing and homelessness programs to create a streamlined, customer-focused system that is fit for purpose. This initiative aims to ensure future investment is directed towards services that are responsive to community need and deliver measurable, meaningful outcomes.

Currently, Queensland’s housing and homelessness sector operates over 65 individual programs. While well intentioned, this fragmented approach has led to unnecessary complexity, confusion and challenges in navigation for both service providers and service users.

To address these issues we’re proposing to consolidate existing programs into 5 broader, more flexible program streams. This approach is designed to:

  • establish clear and accessible entry points and pathways, enabling service users to connect with the right support more effectively
  • enhance flexibility by enabling tailored responses to individuals’ needs, rather than relying on rigid program criteria or cohort-based approaches
  • maintain recognition of distinct service user needs within the consolidated program structure.

We want your insights and perspectives on the proposed changes and new program structure. Your feedback will play a pivotal role in shaping a system that reflects the practical realities and expertise of those delivering services on the ground.
